Tales of Transport: Sweetie’s Journey Home

Written by GRRoM Transport Coordinator, Elizabeth Danko

At GRRoM, we often say that it takes a village—and Sweetie’s story is a shining example of that truth.

It all started with a message from a fellow rescue group in Indiana, GRRACE (Golden Retriever Rescue & Community Education). A breeder had surrendered a Golden Retriever, but there was no foster lined up yet. That didn’t stop our team. The moment we secured a foster with one of our GRRoM homes, the transport team jumped into action.

Sweetie’s Freedom Ride

Amanda, a dedicated transporter with GRRACE, picked up Sweetie early that morning and began the first leg of the journey from Indiana to Three Rivers, Michigan.

The Next Leg of the Journey

From there, our own transporter James stepped in—donating over three hours of travel time to get Sweetie to Jackson, where she met Liz.

But Sweetie’s ride wasn’t over yet. Liz brought her to Birmingham, where she handed her off to another Liz (yes, two wonderful Lizzes!). At every stop, Sweetie was gently offered water, a snack, and a stretch—though she was too nervous to accept. With each transfer, she looked a little unsure… but she also looked forward. Towards something new. Something safe.

A New Beginning

By 2:00 PM, Sweetie was finally in the arms of her foster family, meeting her new sister and beginning a new chapter. She’ll be given time, space, and love to settle in at her own pace.

Sweetie’s journey is a testament to the power of teamwork and the big hearts of our volunteers. From Indiana to Michigan, through cities and towns, one Golden life changed forever.
