Approximately 8 year old Adult Male Golden Retriever
Status:
Ready for Adoption
About:
Brantley is an approximately 8-year-old who is energetic and thinks he is a puppy. He is very smart, knows basic commands and remembers his training well. At mealtime, he does a flawless stay, not moving a muscle until he gets the release command. Brantley is a very affectionate dog and sticks close to his people. He's happy to go out in the yard but if he's alone he wants to come in after a few minutes. A physically fenced yard is recommended. He is excited to meet visitors and is friendly with everyone. Brantley seems to enjoy car rides despite some anxiety and does best restrained in the backseat where he usually settles down after a few minutes. Brantley has very good manners. He stays off furniture and he never counter surfs. He is fully house trained and doesn't chew. He successfully lived with cats in his previous home. Brantley is a great dog whose only issue is his reactivity to other dogs, so he needs to be an only dog. Brantley loves to go on walks, preferring to lead the way. He pulls but responds to correction. He is reactive to squirrels and other dogs on walks and may lunge forward with considerable strength, so avoidance of other dogs is important. Positive reinforcement obedience training is highly recommended for experienced families and required for novice ones. Brantley has limited or no experience with children so a family without children is recommended.
