26 for 26: Changing Lives, One Golden at a Time

As Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan celebrates 26 years of rescue in 2026, we launched our 26 for 26 Fundraiser with a simple goal: help provide life-changing care for the Goldens who need us most.

Every dog who enters GRRoM has a story. Some need emergency medical care. Some need diagnostics to uncover hidden health challenges. Others need training, rehabilitation, or simply the time and support to become the dogs they were always meant to be.

Through the generosity of our supporters, we're already making an incredible impact.

Our goal is to raise $26,000 in honor of 26 years of rescue, allowing us to continue saying "yes" when the next dog in need arrives.

Follow along as we celebrate the Goldens whose lives are being changed through this campaign. So far, we have $15,700 worth of medical need for current Goldens in our foster care. With your help, we can get them the care they need to thrive for years to come.

✓ Angel

Fundraising Goal: $1,500
Status: Goal Met! 🎉

Angel is a 10-year-old Golden Retriever who came into rescue with her bonded companion, Lexi, after their owner's life circumstances changed dramatically.

During her veterinary evaluation, Angel was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. Because early treatment is critical for the best possible outcome, surgery was scheduled quickly to remove the mass.

Thanks to our incredible supporters, Angel's fundraising goal was fully met, allowing her surgery to move forward. We are currently awaiting pathology results to determine any future treatment needs.

Thank you for helping Angel receive the care she deserved.

□ Chance

Fundraising Goal: $8,500

Amount Raised: $1,500 ✓

When Chance first entered GRRoM's care, it was clear something was affecting his mobility. He was experiencing weakness in his hind legs, and our supporters stepped up to help fund the $1,500 of diagnostic testing needed to uncover the cause.

Thanks to those initial donations, Chance was evaluated by an orthopedic specialist and we now have a clearer picture of what he needs.

Chance has been diagnosed with significant orthopedic issues, including bowed hind limbs and instability in both knees. His veterinary team has recommended bilateral TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgeries to improve his comfort, stability, and long-term mobility.

His first TPLO surgery is scheduled, with a cost of approximately $3,500. A second surgery will be performed approximately six weeks later as he continues his recovery journey.

While this is a significant investment, these procedures offer Chance the opportunity to live a more active, comfortable life. Without intervention, his mobility challenges are expected to worsen over time.

As part of our 26 for 26 Fundraiser, we are now raising funds to support Chance's first surgery and rehabilitation.

Every donation helps provide this deserving young Golden with the chance to move comfortably, build strength, and enjoy the active life every dog deserves.

□ Maddie & Rielly

Fundraising Goal: $1,600 each for $3,200 total.

Amount Raised: $500

Maddie and Rielly are a bonded pair of Goldens who recently entered GRRoM's care. Together, they have a journey ahead of them as they work toward improved health and wellness.

Both dogs are significantly overweight and will require veterinary oversight, nutritional management, and ongoing support to help them safely lose weight and improve their quality of life.

As a bonded pair, they have always relied on one another, and we are committed to helping them succeed together. Follow along on their journey on their Instagram Page!

□ Susie

Fundraising Goal: $2,500

Amount Raised: $500

Susie is an 11-year-old Golden Retriever mix whose life was turned upside down after losing her longtime owner in March 2026.

When she entered care, Susie weighed just 38 pounds and was suffering from severe hair loss, chronic itching, and significant malnutrition. Thanks to the incredible dedication of her caregiver, specialty veterinary care through Michigan State University, and ongoing medical treatment, Susie has made remarkable progress.

Now with GRRoM, Susie continues to require specialized prescription food, medications, weekly treatments, and ongoing veterinary monitoring, with monthly care costs averaging approximately $300.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a dog is given the medical care, patience, and love they deserve.

Dogs Still to Come

One thing we've learned in 26 years of rescue is that there is always another dog who needs help.

A senior needing surgery.
A young dog needing diagnostics.
A bonded pair searching for stability.
A frightened surrender learning to trust again.

Every dollar raised through our 26 for 26 campaign helps ensure that when the next call comes, GRRoM can answer it.

Thank you for helping us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Goldens in need.

Together, we're changing lives—one Golden at a time.
