Foster & Adoption Process

Thank you for your interest in fostering or adopting a Golden Retriever with GRRoM! Below is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

Step 1: Complete & Submit Your Application

All Applicants

  • Complete the application.

    • Our primary method of completing the application is through our online application.

    • For those who prefer to be emailed a PDF to fill out, please email our Onboarding Speciality, Katy Davis, at kmdpnp@aol.com.

Foster, Foster-to-Adopt, & Babysitting Applicants

In addition to the application, you must also upload within the online application:

  • Signed Foster Contract

  • Copy of your homeowner’s insurance declaration page (showing liability coverage)

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

A $26 non-refundable application fee is required.

  • Check by mail(payable to GRRoM)

Step 3: Application Review & Home Visit

  • Your application will be assigned to an Advocate

  • The Advocate will:

    • Review your application

    • Contact you if anything is missing

    • Complete a vet check for current/past pets

  • A home visit will be scheduled at a convenient time

  • After the visit:

    • A report is submitted

    • You will receive an approval decision

Step 4: Approval & Next Steps

Fosters

  • Your application will be filed

  • You will receive an invitation to join Groups.iO

  • Once accepted, you will begin receiving emails about dogs needing foster homes

Adopters

  • Your Advocate will guide you through the process of finding the right dog

Step 5: Finding Your Golden

Fosters

  • You will receive emails about dogs needing placement from Groups.iO

  • If interested, respond as soon as possible

  • You are never obligated to take a dog

  • Our team matches dogs based on the best fit for your home

  • See steps 6-8 for further information on next steps.

Adopters

  • You will receive an adoption roster with available dogs

  • If interested:

    • Contact the foster to schedule a visit

    • All family members and dogs must attend

  • If multiple families are interested:

    • The foster selects the best fit

  • If chosen:

    • Your Advocate will notify you

    • Arrange pickup with the foster

    • See Step 8 for Further Information

Step 6: Bringing a Foster Dog Home

  • Our Transport Team will deliver the dog to you

  • Many dogs may feel anxious at first and need:

    • Patience

    • Love

    • Time to adjust

Our team is here to support you if any issues arise.

Step 7: Foster Decision Period

After 2–3 weeks, you will decide whether to adopt your foster dog.

  • Fosters have first right to adopt

  • If not adopting:

    • The dog is placed on the adoption roster

    • You will help host meet-and-greets with potential adopters

    • You help select the best-fit family

Step 8: Final Adoption

To complete the adoption:

Bring:

  • Leash

  • ID tag

  • Payment
