Maxine
Maxine has been adopted by her foster family! Maxine is a dog that came in with anxiety and the newborn at home was making her anxiety worse. She needed a calm and quiet home. Here is what Maxine's family has to say about her progress:
“She is doing better everyday. It is going to be a process. Yesterday was a big advance for her. I had a friend over for coffee. In the past she has ‘turned inside out’, while barking and running away from visitors. Yesterday she barked twice as my friend came in and then laid down quietly by my feet. What a change! She still reacts to unusual sounds and busy situations by wanting to ‘bolt’. The need to flee as quickly as possible with no regard to any obstacles in the way is strong.
Another advancement is that she now rides in the car quietly and loves to watch out the window. She has learned to ‘get in the back’ (originally she thought the front seat of the car was her spot). She has also learned ‘wait’. So I can go out the door first and go down stairs first. She has almost reliably learned to not go into the kitchen if I am cooking. That said, occasionally the smell is so good she can’t resist crossing the line! lol
She knows we cuddle in bed in the morning when she hears me stirring. She always brings me a gift (a shoe or a ball). We then lay and snuggle while I finish waking up. We love that. We have
lots to learn yet but she is a good girl with a good heart! She is a great dog!!”
