Marley

Born: 10/29/19

Female

Weight: 66lbs

Marley is a beautiful Golden Retriever/St Bernard mix.  Aside from some minor white and black markings on her head and tail Marley has the appearance of a Golden Retriever.

Marley is a fun loving, playful, exuberant girl with an unparalleled love of life and of her people. Marley loves her walks and exercise; daily walks are a requirement for this girl’s family, the longer the walk the more she will love it. She plays well with other dogs, and has enjoyed the dog park. She lived with a cat in her original home. Marley is a smart girl and a fast learner. She has certainly figured out a few things from her foster siblings. In the few short weeks that we have had her, she has blossomed into a relaxed, happy dog who loves tummy and butt rubs.

Marley is currently being fostered. It should be noted that foster families have first right to adoption of Goldens in their care.

Life was not always this way for Marley, she led a rather secluded existence before she was surrendered. She used to exhibit fear and anxiety when meeting new people, which was manifested by growling, especially if she was taken by surprise. More recently, with a stable routine including lots of outdoor walking, she is much more comfortable and at ease; no growls.

Marley would do best with an experienced adult family, in a calm home with a reliable routine. She responds well to some commands, but all training leaves her brain when a squirrel or other critter of interest is in her sights. She is strong and will pull hard on leash. An Easywalk or other No-Pull harness is a requirement for her. She's not quite ready to attend a group class yet, but we can provide referrals to a private force-free trainer to start with. Who knows, some of the many popular dog sports like agility, barn hunt, scent work, etc. may be in her future!  A fenced yard is preferred but other options may be considered for the right family.

Marley rides well in the car, and is reliable in the house.  Although she is crate-trained we are told; we have not used one. She will be a great dog for the right family willing to put in some time and effort to continue to help her feel reassured when meeting new people. If you are interested and qualify, please give his foster a call to set up a visit.

Marley Update March 31st, 2023

We are excited to announce that GRRoM found a lovely couple to foster Marley. She has been there two weeks and is happily adjusting to her new people and home life. They are teaching her many things and giving her jobs to do which she loves.
