About:
Jax is a 9-month-old intact Golden Retriever with the enthusiasm and curiosity you would expect from a teenage Golden. His energy level has settled into what is normal for his age. He loves to play fetch, explore, learn, and then relax when the fun is over.
One of Jax’s best qualities is how quickly he learns. He loves training and wants to work with his people. He already knows sit, down, wait, and kennel up. He is a smart, eager student who responds well to training using treats.
Jax does very well in his crate. He goes in willingly, sleeps through the night in his crate, and settles nicely when crated during the day. He is not quite ready for free roam of the house, but he is very comfortable and content in his crate. He is housebroken but is still learning which things are toys and which aren't.
Jax has no separation anxiety and has shown no aggression toward people or other dogs. Like many adolescent Goldens, he can still be mouthy and jumpy during play, but he does not nip or bite. With continued training and maturity, these typical puppy behaviors should continue to improve. His first bio mentioned he was taking medication. He has calmed down a lot and is being weaned off the medication.
Jax enjoys other dogs and does well with canine companions. His experience with cats is unknown.
For walks, Jax wears a head halter because he was unintentionally taught to pull while wearing a flat collar. The head halter helps him walk more politely while he continues to learn good leash manners.
Jax requires a physically fenced yard or a committed plan for providing appropriate daily exercise and enrichment. He is an active young Golden who needs safe opportunities to run, play, and continue developing good habits. An obedience/house manners class is also required.
Because he is still a young, active adolescent, he would do best with children 12 and older who understand how to interact respectfully with a large, energetic dog.
Jax has a mild congenital heart condition called mitral valve dysplasia, which is the cause of his heart murmur. A veterinary cardiologist found mild valve leakage, but there is no evidence of congestive heart failure, and his heart is functioning well. At this time, this condition is not affecting his quality of life.
Jax is looking for a family who understands that puppy adolescence is temporary, but the reward is lifelong. He is affectionate, intelligent, eager to please, and has all the qualities of becoming an exceptional Golden Retriever companion with continued training, structure, and love.
