Ana Alvarez

Co-Director of Foster Operations

Nearly 30 years ago, I met a Golden Retriever named Jesse. She was smart, sweet, and perfectly behaved. I didn’t know then how much she would change my life. A few years later, I met a Golden Retriever rescue group at a pet store and adopted Macy, an 8 year old former puppy mill mama. Teaching her how to be a family dog took time and understanding, but her mischievous spirit made her unforgettable. Since then, we’ve always had two Goldens; one angelic like Jesse and one mischievous like Macy. Through GRRoM, we adopted our seventh and eighth Goldens. Or, as we like to call them, Harry and Henry, who carry on that tradition of angelic and mischievous respectively.

After retiring, I began volunteering with GRRoM and now serve as Co-Director of Foster Operations. I’ve learned that every Golden is unique with different shapes, colors, and pasts, but each deserves compassion, safety, and love.

Rescue Tip: I encourage fosters and adopters to build trust, provide a safe home, and reward good behavior which is the key to turning a rescue into a beloved family dog.
